Health Check-up Camps

Introduction:

Good health starts from very infancy. A healthy child develops into a healthy adult. Health is real wealth. A healthy person is an asset to himself, his family, and his community. On the other hand, an ailing person is a burden on all.
Health is the pivot upon which a man's whole personality and its well-being depend. An ailing and aching body saps the enthusiasm for pursuit. Unwholesome feelings and sensations retard the pace of functional activity, economic development, and spiritual uplift.

Characteristics of an ideal Health System:

The ideal health system has to achieve three goals; attaining good health for the people, being responsive to the expectation of the people, and maintaining fairness in financial contribution for obtaining a service. Good health or the best attainable average level of health for the people, which results from the activities of the health system require resources. We, at Seva Bharti, strive to generate resources for providing health care services to the underprivileged people at a very subsidized rate, make efficient use of the resources, both material, and personnel, and deliver proper services to the target group to the best of their benefit.

Sewa Bharti and its Health Centres:

Seva Bharti’s health centers have been operational in Punvarsh Sibir, J.J. Colony, and backward settlements and slum areas for the last 32 years now. Following the principles of Swami Vivekananda, ‘Serving Humanity, Serving God’, Seva Bharti has established 21 stable centers and 1 mobile center across Delhi.  There are 23 doctors and 7 assistants who have been rendering their services to the needy communities through these centers. In the year 2013-2014, the Health centers of Seva Bharti treated almost 1,57,201 patients.
In case of any natural calamity, Seva Bharti’s health center is always ready to extend it support and attend to the needs of the grief-stricken people.

Many Facets of Sewa Bharti’s Health Wing:

Mobile Dispensary: Sewa Bharti’s Health Wing has a mobile dispensary that is doing commendable services in terms of providing health services to the people who cannot afford these services otherwise. In one day, the mobile van attends to people in three different places. It works every alternate day, and in a week, thus providing services in 9 different places. It takes care of doing regular health check-ups of people in underprivileged Sewa Bastis and provides treatment and medicines for day-to-day diseases. Last year a total of 22,682 persons benefitted from the services provided by the mobile dispensary.

Diagnostic Centre: Health wing of Sewa Bharti has a diagnostic center in Karol Bagh. It was established with the motive of catering to the needs of people of the underprivileged class. The service that this diagnostic center provides includes X-Rays, ECG, Haematology, Kidney Function Test, Liver Function Test, Hormone Test, Sputum Examination, etc. These testing services are provided to the people at a rate, 50% less than the market rate of this test.

Leprosy Centre: Sewa Bharti Health Wing’s Leprosy Centre is spread across different places in Tahirpur. There is Tahirpur Manav Sewa Samiti, which boasts of a Sanskar Kendra, Vachnalaya, and Medical services. In the sanskar Kendra, different values of Sewa Bharti is imparted, whereas the Vachnalaya provides facilities for reading newspapers, magazines, and other books for general awareness of the people. Thus other than providing medical services, the Leprosy center is also doing good work in imparting values and services.

There is another Leprosy center at Anandgram in Tahirpur. The other Leprosy center at Sarvoday also boasts of a Vachnalaya.
A Specific feature of the Sewa Bhati Leprosy health center is that it provides a homothetic medicine (unlike the allopathy system) in consultation with Dr. Chakrawarti of  Durgapur(West Bengal)which if taken regular brings sensitivity to those parts of the body which have been affected by leprosy.
